Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) is an exterior gateway protocol (EGP) designed to exchange routing and reachability information between different autonomous systems (AS).
BGP is classified as a path-vector protocol which makes routing decisions based on configured BGpaths, network policies or rule-sets.
BGP used for routing within the same AS is called Interior Border Gateway Protocol (iBGP).
